The listed infrastructure opportunities will continue to abound under the new Australian Labor Policy (ALP) key policy positions, with net zero and emission reduction plans presenting a “huge long-term” opportunity across the energy sector, according to 4D Infrastructure.

ALP has supported net zero emissions target by 2050, with national emissions to stand at 43% below 2005 levels by 2030.

The energy sector will see most of the investment opportunities around the emphasis on supply, security and energy transition, with an energy transition to a net zero budget estimated required investment of at least $76 billion by 2030.

Sarah Shaw, global portfolio manager at 4D Infrastructure, said APA Group and Iberdola were amongst several listed organisations that had highlighted the opportunity set within the domestic energy sector and were eager to participate and facilitate generation, energy transition, transmission and distribution solutions.

Further to that, increased infrastructure spending was occurring across the globe and this was a clear positive for both the global economy and the listed infrastructure sector.

The multiple and international listed stocks, which would continue to capitalise on the infrastructure opportunity in Australia, would see Transurban and other toll road operators, as a potential partner in future road investment, weather it would be through investment in their existing roads, unsolicited investment proposals or future privatisations.

Although the ALP did not state a specific investment $ target, its general stated goals said there would be “plans to invest in roads, rail, ports, and high-speed broadband.

The other ALP’s key infrastructure policy positions included upping the Coalition’s $480 million commitment by $270 million, bringing the total investment to $750 million, and a further $2.4 billion projected to expand full-fibre National Broadband Network (NBN) access across the country in all states and territories.
