Challenger positions with new board appointments

Challenger Limited has announced two new board appointments as it looks to bolster its digital presence and grow its retirement incomes offering.
The company announced that it had appointed former Slater and Gordon chief executive and KPMG leader, John Somerville to the board alongside the founder and executive director of global software company, Lexer, David Whittle.
The two appointments are associated with the impending retirement of JoAnne Stephenson.
Commenting on the appointments, Challenger chair, Duncan West said they reflected Challenger’s commitment to board renewal and maintaining a strong and diverse mix of experience and industry knowledge.
He said Somerville’s experience in designing and implementing governance and risk structures would be an asset as Challenger continues to grow its retirement and income franchise.
West said Whittle’s background would be valuable as Challenger progressed its digital transformation and executed the next phase of its strategy “to meet more customer needs across a broader range of channels”.
Somerville and Whittle will stand for election at Challenger’s annual general meeting on 30 October.
