Alex Zaika takes up helm at Global X ETFs

Global X ETFs have ended their search for a new CEO, appointing former Managing Director of GAM Investments’ Australian arm, Alex Zaika, as Evan Metcalf’s successor.
Zaika will commence in the new role from 4 November, after the exchange traded fund (ETF) provider first announced Metcalf’s departure in early August after two years in the chief executive role post-acquisition by Mirae Asset and 10 years in total.
Zaika brings more than 20 years of experience in the funds management industry and the ETF space in particular, having spent over six years at GAM Investments (during which they were a Fund Manager of the Year Awards winner in 2023) as well as time in senior leadership roles at BlackRock, Barclays Capital and Macquarie Bank.
At Switzerland-based GAM Investments, Zaika was responsible for growing the manager’s presence across Australia and New Zealand.
“I am excited to lead Global X at a time of significant growth and advancement in the ETF space. With over US$86 billion in assets under management globally and a strong track record of designing client-centric solutions, Global X is uniquely positioned to forge its leadership in Australia,” Zaika said.
“I look forward to working with the talented team at Global X to expand our offering and enhance our value proposition for Australian investors.”
At Global X, Zaika will spearhead the firm’s strategies and initiatives to grow its investment solution offering and strengthen its presence as a key player in the Australian ETF market.
“We are committed to revolutionising the Australian ETF landscape by providing our clients with high quality investment solutions and are delighted to welcome Alex to our global leadership team. His extensive experience and strategic vision position him as an ideal leader to drive Global X’s next phase of growth. We are confident that under his leadership, Global X will continue to deliver innovative and tailored investment solutions that meet the diverse needs of Australian investors,” Hyeon-Joo Park, Founder and Global Strategy Officer of Mirae Asset Financial Group, said.
Formerly known as ETF Securities until its acquisition by Mirae Asset in 2022, Global X has grown its range of investment products to include 39 ETFs.
