AOFM appoints first female chief executive

Financial services veteran, Anna Hughes, has been appointed as the Australian Office of Financial Management’s new chief executive, becoming the first female lead in the organisation’s history.
South Australia’s Deputy Under Treasurer, Hughes brings over two decades of financial services experience in the public and private sectors, having held several senior roles in the APAC region and South Australian Government.
Hughes was appointed to the role by Treasury Secretary, Steven Kennedy PSM, and will be responsible for managing the issuance of debt securities for the Australian Government, the Government’s cash and debt portfolios, and for providing advice regarding financial risks.
“Ms Hughes expertise and leadership will be invaluable for the AOFM in its important role in managing the Australian Government’s cash and debt portfolios,” Treasurer Jim Chalmers said.
“I thank Ms Hughes’ predecessor as Chief Executive Officer, Rob Nicholl. Since joining the AOFM as CEO in 2011, Mr Nicholl has shown exemplary leadership and provided advice to government during some of Australia’s most complex economic challenges.
“Ms Hughes has big shoes to fill, but I have no doubt that she will do an outstanding job.”
Hughes will commence in the role on 16 January 2023.
