Ausbil has won the Long/Short Equities category of the 2022 Financial Newswire/SQM Research Fund Manager of the Year Awards.

The company won thanks to the performance of its Ausbil Global Resources Fund.

The fund, which aims to provide positive absolute investment returns over the long run by employing a long/short approach to global natural resources equity markets in order to generate positive returns in both rising and falling commodities, is managed by James Stewart and Luke Smith.

Smith has been with Ausbil since joining in 2017 while Smith has been with the fund manager since 2014.

The fund was rewarded for its durability and performance over the medium term.

Commenting on the overall performance of Ausbil, the company’s chief executive, Paul Xiradis pointed to the stability within its investment teams and its adherence to process.

With respect to commodities and broader the broader geo-political circumstances he said the company had looked at the situation and how it had to adjust looking at inflation and the likelihood of higher interest rates.

Xiradis said that the company had not knee-jerked with respect to commodity prices moving higher but, if anything had looked at what had worked and what had not
