Orbis Investments hires specialist from sister company
Orbis Investments has sourced its latest hire from its sister company, Allan Gray Australia, with the appointment of Werner (Vern) du Preez as Investment Specialist.
The former Business Development Manager at Allan Gray Australia joined Orbis’ Australian client team as of 1 January and is based in Melbourne.
du Preez will be responsible for managing Orbis’ relationships with research houses and supporting the firm’s retail strategy and product range in Australia.
“The Orbis and Allan Gray philosophy is grounded in contrarian, long-term investing, and a commitment to uncovering the intrinsic value of companies,” du Preez said.
“We are proud to have delivered value for clients by adhering to this philosophy, not following the herd, and staying disciplined in volatile markets. As we commence 2025, I am excited to join Orbis and help our clients navigate the rapidly changing investment environment to maximise long-term returns.”
du Preez relocated to Australia in 2019 after having commenced his career at the Allan Gray Group’s headquarters in South Africa in 2008, enjoying positions across product development, client relationships and investment. During his time at Allan Gray Australia, du Preez mainly worked with financial advisers and wealth management professionals in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.
“Vern brings over 17 years of experience in fundamental, long-term, contrarian investing gained across diverse markets through his tenure at Allan Gray and Orbis. We are delighted to welcome him to the Orbis team,” Jason Ciccolallo, Managing Director and Head of Clients at Orbis Investments, said.
