Pemberton to join Link board
Link Group has appointed wealth and banking sector veteran and Order of Australia recipient Gail Pemberton to its board.
Across her 15-year non-executive director career, Pemberton has served across a number of private and government sector boards, including as chair of Melbourne IT, non-executive director at Paypal Australia and a director at Sydney Metro.
In addition to her current chairmanship of auto leasing firm FleetPartners/Eclipx and SME lender Prospa, Pemberton is also a non-executive director of HSBC Bank Australia and cloud communications platform developer Symbio.
Prior to transitioning board-only career in 2008, she notched up more than 35 years in the banking and wealth management sectors, with a specialisation in technology and operations roles.
In her most recent executive role, Pemberton was chief operating officer (COO), UK at BNP Paribas and chief executive and managing director of the investment bank’s Australia and New Zealand arm.
Across her two-decade tenure at Macquarie Group, she led the bank’s tech function, as chief information officer, for 12 years and served as financial services group COO for her final three years.
Pemberton was awarded an Order of Australia in 2018 for distinguished service to the finance and banking industry, recognised as an advocate for technology and a mentor to women.
Link Group chair Michael Carapiet said he was “delighted to welcome” Pemberton to the board, adding that her “knowledge of Australia’s technology and financial services sector will enhance our board greatly”.
In a statement on Pemberton’s appointment, Link said it will continue to concentrate on expanding its two leading businesses: Retirement & Superannuation Solutions (RSS) and Corporate Markets (CM).
Link, a managed services provider and digital platforms developer for the financial services sector, touts itself as the largest provider of services in Australia’s superannuation administration industry.
Pemberton will assume her new role with Link on 8 January 2024.
