AusSuper hire leads merged investment team

Just after combining its infrastructure and property investment teams, AustralianSuper has appointed Nik Kemp to spearhead the division as Head of Global Real Assets.
AustralianSuper’s former Head of Infrastructure, Kemp will take on responsibility for the fund’s global property and infrastructure portfolios, which have been brought together under one Real Assets team led by Head of Mid Risk, Jason Peasley.
Kemp said the merger between the two asset classes acknowledges their close relationship and leverages the experience and knowledge featured across the Real Assets division to achieve the fund’s goal of doubling its Mid Risk portfolio to $150 billion by 2030.
“By bringing the expertise and knowledge of the two asset classes together, we can maximise the best of both to support global deal origination and continue to drive value creation in ownership for Fund members,” he said.
“By combining the teams, we can take a more research and sector-led approach to investing, aligned to our broader one portfolio approach.”
AustralianSuper has also made several other personnel changes, with Head of European Property, Paul Clark, to become Head of European Real Assets; and Head of American Infrastructure, Derek Chu, to become Acting Head of American Real Assets, as the fund finalises the joining of property under the Real Assets strategy in North America.
Senior Investment Director (Infrastructure), Monica Ryu, has also been appointed Head of Asset Management within the new Real Assets team.
The fund will also commence recruitment for a new Head of Australian Real Assets and a new role, Head of Strategic Opportunities.
