Barclays makes Australian appointments

Multinational banking company, Barclays, has announced the appointment of Duncan Beattie (left) and Duncan Connellan (right) as the new Managing Directors of Investment Banking in Australia.
In the Sydney-based roles, Beattie and Connellan will work with the local and global Investment Banking teams to expand Barclays’ investment banking franchise in Australia, reporting to Richard Satchwell, Country CEO and Head of Investment Banking, Australia.
Beattie will be responsible for the delivery of international capital markets financing for clients in Australia and New Zealand, and Connellan will manage the coverage of financial sponsors, infrastructure funds and corporate clients by providing leveraged finance, acquisition finance and structured financing solutions.
“Duncan Beattie and Duncan Connellan are outstanding additions to our Investment Banking team. Their deep industry relationships and extensive transactional experience will generate tremendous value for our corporate and institutional clients in Australia and New Zealand,” Satchwell said.
“After obtaining our foreign authorised deposit-taking institution (ADI) license last month, I’m really excited to have Mr. Beattie and Mr. Connellan joining the bank, which further strengthens our commitment to our growth initiatives in Australia and more broadly in Asia.”
Beattie brings 30 years of capital markets experience and knowledge of the Australian banking landscape to his new role at Barclays, having been J.P. Morgan’s Head of Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Co-Head of Debt Capital Markets for 16 years. Prior to that, he spent 10 years with Nomura in London covering equity markets and three years with KPMG in Glasgow.
Connellan has over 20 years of investment and commercial banking experience in Australia, Asia and Europe, re-joining Barclays from Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group where he was Head of Strategic and Acquisition Finance, Australia and New Zealand for more than four years. He previously worked at Barclays for six years, including as Head of Loan Capital Markets & Leveraged Finance, Australia and New Zealand, as well as for the Royal Bank of Scotland, National Australia Bank and Bankers Trust.
