FSC replaces George on board

The Financial Services Council (FSC) has appointed Nick Hamilton, chief executive of Challenger Limited, as its new deputy chair, succeeding Alexis George, who is stepping down from the role and the board.
George, who earlier this year announced her retirement as chief executive of AMP Limited, will leave the council after a period marked by regulatory reform across Australia’s financial services sector.
FSC’s chair David Bryant said she had been a strong advocate for policies supporting Australians’ long-term financial security.
“Alexis’ experience and insight meant she made a tremendous contribution to the Board,” Bryant said. “Her clear focus on customer outcomes was always at the forefront, and we wish her every success.”
Hamilton, who has served on the FSC board for four years, said it was a privilege to take on the role at a time when the organisation plays a “critical role in advocating for better financial outcomes for all Australians”.
“With aging demographics, mature savings system, emerging asset classes and disruptive technology, the role for the FSC to drive advocacy and good policy to deliver financial confidence has never been more important,” he said.
The peak body also announced the return of Alison Telfer, chief executive of Schroders Australia, in the board. Telfer previously served as a director at council between 2022 and 2025.
“Alison’s deep expertise and commitment to high standards strengthen the Board as we advocate for policies that enhance Australia’s financial services sector,” Bryant said.
In addition, Blair Vernon, incoming chief executive of AMP and its former chief financial officer, has been appointed as a director.
“Our industry is fundamental to the wellbeing of all Australians and through the FSC I look forward to continuing to help shape policies and outcomes in service of them,” Vernon said.
