Aware Super elevates Sue Brake to Trustee Board

Aware Super has welcomed further capital markets and investment expertise to its Trustee Board with the appointment of seasoned professional, Sue Brake, as of 1 January.
Initially appointed as an independent member of the Aware Super Investment Committee earlier this year, Brake was nominated by the Victorian State Government to take on the position following a thorough recruitment search.
She brings a wealth of governance and investment leadership experience to the position across a career spanning more than three decades, with previous roles including Chief Investment Officer of the Australia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Future Fund; Head of Strategic Advisory at Willis Towers Watson; and Senior Investment Strategist at New Zealand’s sovereign wealth fund, The New Zealand Superannuation Fund.
Alongside her current position as Chair of Dragonfly Thinking, an award-winning Australian artificial intelligence (AI) firm, Brake is also a Board member of the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation and a member of the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s Investment and Risk Advisory Panel.
“We are delighted to welcome Sue Brake to our Board. Sue’s exceptional investment expertise and deep understanding of portfolio construction, risk management and governance will be invaluable as we continue to deliver strong retirement outcomes for our 1.2 million members,” Aware Super Chair, Christine McLoughlin AM, said.
“Sue’s experience in emerging technologies including AI will serve our members well as we continue to innovate in service, investments and advice for their benefit.
“On behalf of the Board, I also want to thank outgoing Director Patricia Faulkner AO for her valuable contribution over nine years of service. Patricia’s dedication to our members and her wise counsel have been greatly appreciated.”
