Cbus appoints former ISA boss, Bernie Dean

Big building industry fund, Cbus has appointed former Industry Super Australia chief executive, Bernie Dean, as its new chief strategy officer.
Cbus chief executive, Kristian Fok confirmed Dean’s appointment yesterday, noting that he had been acting in the role since August.
“We are fortunate to secure someone of Bernie Dean’s calibre to steer the development and implementation of our Fund strategy which is core to our long-term vision and success in securing the best retirement outcomes for our members,” Fok said.
“Bernie brings a depth of experience and a strong record of advocating for the interests of working people’s retirement savings. We look forward to Cbus benefitting from his strategic insights as our member-centric Fund moves into its next phase.”
Fok’s announcement said that in his previous role as chief executive of ISA, Dean had led an integrated model of marketing and advocacy programs that helped industry super funds remain competitive, protected the founding principles of super, and boosted member savings.
He said that prior to his chief executive role, Dean was ISA’s Chief Operating Officer and Director of Marketing at ISA.
Dean’s appointment comes as the make-up of the Cbus board has been the subject of change due to the actions of the administrator of Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union (CFMEU).
