Rest launches new video podcast to ‘debunk’ superannuation

Australian superannuation fund, Rest, has released a new video podcast or ‘vodcast’ to address the complexities surrounding super, increase financial awareness and encourage more confident decisions.
The vodcast, titled Super Simple Chats, said it aimed to “demystify” and “debunk” myths surrounding superannuation, after research conducted earlier this year confirmed lower levels of confidence in understanding super than expected.
The research, collected online by Redbridge Group in July, found that only 43 per cent of Australians felt it was easy to understand how super works, while women and young Australians were more likely to feel that it was difficult.
Around 83 per cent of those polled said super funds should put in more effort to make super easier to understand, at the same time as 73 per cent said making super contributions increases their confidence about their financial future.
“At Rest we want to simplify the experience of super for our 2 million members, because making supereasy can lead toaction, and taking action helps members prepare for the future,” Rest’s General Manager, Brand and Member Experience, Andrew Ford, said.
“We think every Australian can benefit from simple advice and education that builds their financial confidence – and it’s clearfrom our research that there is a public demand for super funds to provide this.
“Our Super Simple Chats vodcast aims to humanise super so it’s more relatable for our members. Our research shows that young working Australians are often disengaged with their super and see it as boringand complicated.
“We want to help our members proactively make informed financial decisions early in their working life as this will give them more opportunities to grow their super balance and look to their future with more confidence.”
The five vodcast episodes are designed to discuss common topics and themes with Rest experts in a digestible format, covering how much super you need to retire, how insurance works, and how to keep your super savings on track when you have a baby.
