AMP appoints Vernon’s successor in CFO role

AMP Limited has added a wealth of global financial services experience to its executive team with the appointment of Jackie Cleary as Chief Financial Officer, following the promotion of Blair Vernon to CEO.
The personnel changes were triggered by the retirement of Alexis George from the chief executive position, which was first announced earlier this year and came into effect at the end of March, after which Vernon was elevated to the new role and a recruitment process commenced for the CFO position.
According to a statement made to the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Cleary boasts almost three decades of experience working in financial services across Australia, the US and the UK, most recently as Managing Director and Head of Financial Institutions at Jefferies Australia and previously as Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in the Financial Institutions Group.
Her expertise lies in providing advisory services for financial institutions on corporate strategy, strategic transactions, capital allocation, balance sheet management, financial reporting, regulatory matters and investor engagement.
In the new role that has been elevated to the executive team, Cleary will be responsible for spearheading the firm’s financial activities and strategies, including financial control, statutory and regulatory reporting, performance reporting, tax, treasury, corporate strategy and investor relations.
“We are delighted to welcome Jackie as Chief Financial Officer of AMP,” Vernon said.
“Jackie brings significant experience in capital management and financial services and will have a key role to play as we continue to optimise our balance sheet and redirect capital towards growth, all while maintaining our discipline operating efficiency.
“I would also like to thank Adrian Ryan for his excellent stewardship as Acting CFO, during this transition period.
“This appointment supports the continued strengthening of our finance function as we execute our existing strategy, maintain prudent capital settings and deliver consistent outcomes for our shareholders.”
The statement confirmed Cleary’s appointment was the last piece of the puzzle that is AMP’s new executive team under Vernon’s leadership, with Rebecca McDermott appointed Chief People Officer and Rob Jarrett as Chief Operating Officer. Chief Marketing Officer Tina Cleary has also joined the executive team as a result of the personnel overhaul.
Cleary is expected to commence in the new role from 20 July.
