The Institute of Managed Accounts Professionals (IMAP) has crowned the winners of its 2023 Managed Accounts Awards, with Perpetual, Lonsec and Franklin Templeton named among other honourees.

Perpetual Private won the Licensee Managed Account category, while Alvia Asset Partners took out the Boutique Licensee award, Lonsec topped the ESG category, DNR Capital won the Australian Equities category and Franklin Templeton topped the International Equities category.

Advisory firm Shaw and Partners won the Fixed Interest category and Infinity Asset Management won the award for Australian Equities – Small Caps, while Drummond Capital Partners topped the Multi-Asset category and Melbourne-based Nucleus Wealth won the Innovation category, recognising the progress made through technology to improve the efficiency and adoption of managed accounts (MA).

Toby Potter, Chair of IMAP, said he was pleased to see the number of entries show year-on-year growth in “reflection of the maturity of the managed account market”.

“Just as last year IMAP introduced an ESG category as the number of portfolios managed in this way expanded, so this year we were able to provide a Boutique Licensees category to reflect the fact that smaller advice businesses are now working with experienced asset consultants to develop portfolios that reflect their investment philosophy.

“It’s part of the professionalisation of advice. We wish to congratulate the winners in each of the awards categories.

“In particular, the strength of the Licensee Category and Boutique Licensee Category recognise the breadth of use of managed accounts. Evaluation of the Licensees this year was enhanced with analysis of each portfolio using the BlackRock Aladdin risk and factor tools.”

The panel convened to judge the awards consisted of investment strategist Brad Matthews, IMAP Investment Specialist David McDonald, co-founder of Select Asset Management Dominick McCormick, former Head of Research at SQM Research Rob da Silva and Potter.

“While there is a clear qualitative scoring approach around investment philosophy, process, team and collateral, combined with risk adjusted performance, there was more discussion between the judges on the finalists in this category than in any other,” McCormick said on the multi-Asset class category.

Potter also thanked the judges for their contributions to reviewing the entries and judging the awards.
