Betashares to acquire long-running financial education podcast

Australian exchange traded fund (ETF) issuer and novice superannuation player, Betashares, has inked a deal to acquire local financial education and investing podcast group, Equity Mates Media, in an effort to advance national financial literacy.
The acquisition will see Equity Mates co-founders, Bryce Leske and Alec Renehan, continue at the head of the business and maintain full editorial independence, with the added backing of the broader Betashares Financial Group.
Betashares chief executive, Alex Vynokur, said the agreement indicates the two business’ missions to improve Australians’ financial literacy, investment knowledge, confidence in achieving their financial goals and security in their financial futures are aligned.
“For nearly 15 years, we have prided ourselves on our ability to consistently raise the bar through the provision of educational materials about long term wealth creation opportunities for Australians at all stages of their investing journey,” he said.
“We deeply believe in the power of education to help Australians make smarter financial decisions and teaming up with Equity Mates demonstrates our desire to double down on the provision of engaging content and materials to further this goal.
“Betashares and Equity Mates have a shared mission to improve long term financial outcomes for Australians, so there is natural alignment in our goals. Equity Mates have built an impressive platform that genuinely connects with its audience, and we’re excited to support their growth while respecting the values, authenticity and editorial independence that has made them so trusted.”
With the support and resources of Betashares, Equity Mates is also well-positioned to grow its efforts in content production tailored to Australian financial advisers and enhance their clients’ engagement and education. A statement from Betashares confirmed Equity Mates will look to expand its overall content offering, grow its community engagement and develop new education tools.
“From day one, we set out to break down the barriers to investing and make finance more approachable to everyday Australians,” Leske said.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Betashares to take the next step on our journey given the alignment in our goals, culture and mission. Over the coming years, we will continue to keep delivering authentic educational content to more Australians.”
“We started Equity Mates with a simple premise: your access to opportunities shouldn’t be dependent on your bank balance,” Renehan said.
“We’ve watched over the years as Betashares has made investing more accessible for all Australians. We’re excited to team up with Betashares and together build out new content, educational material and practical tools to help all Australians take control of their financial futures and explore the possibilities of investing.”
Equity Mates was first established in 2017 and has grown to millions of downloads, a reach of 780,000 people a month across all of its content channels, several podcasts and series produced, several educational resources on offer and even gamification options.
