MUFG Retirement Solutions and Victoria University have signed a three-year strategic partnership that seeks to boost workforce capability through professional development and supercharge job pathways for students.

The agreement, announced on Tuesday, will provide VU students with access to internships, graduate programs and project-based learning opportunities at the $970 billion retirement technology provider, whereas MUFG staffs will be able to tap into the university’s upskilling programs across emerging technologies, cyber security and financial services.

The two organisations said the collaboration will span a broad range of disciplines, including business, accounting, financial planning, information technology, cyber security, artificial intelligence, law and project management.

“We are proud to announce our partnership with Victoria University, an organisation that shares our deep commitment to inclusion and opportunity,” said Frank Lombardo, chief executive of MUFG Retirement Solutions for Australia and New Zealand.

“This collaboration opens the door for a dynamic exchange of ideas. From immersive hackathons to advanced professional development, we’re investing in both students and our people through ongoing training and upskilling to ensure they remain adaptable and future-ready in a rapidly changing environment.”

Lombardo added the arrangement would also provide MUFG with access to new perspectives and emerging talent.

“By tapping into VU’s diverse talent pool and exploring flipped-campus opportunities, we are welcoming a new generation of thinkers into our business,” he said.

“We believe that engaging with enthusiastic students and their fresh perspectives provides the creative spark for breakthrough innovation as we work together to create the jobs of the future.”

Victoria University vice-chancellor Professor Adam Shoemaker said the deal would deepen industry collaboration and expand opportunities for students to gain practical workplace experience before graduation.

“This partnership represents a significant new step in supporting VU’s commitment to lifelong learning, industry collaboration and innovative research,” Professor Shoemaker said.

“It will give students invaluable exposure to industry knowledge, practical experience and emerging workforce trends across a range of disciplines.

“Importantly, this partnership also opens up pathways for students at our new campus in India, helping them build connections with global industry and creating direct links into employment.”
